If you’ve looked into purchasing an Espro press at all in your quest for the perfect cup of rich, flavorful coffee, then you already know that two of the higher end models in Espro’s line of premium coffee brewers are the Espro P5 and the Espro P7.
All of the Espro press brewers, even the travel press, have the same advantages that a good French press has: filtering out all the grit, and making damn good coffee.
They both feature dual micro-filters, and a mechanism that helps prevent over extraction.
If you’re trying to decide between the P7 and the P5, you’re probably wondering: What are the differences between them?
Yes, they look different visually—although both certainly have a sleek, modern style. But are the differences only in the looks? Let’s find out.
The P7
The P7 is Espro’s top-of-the-line, flagship model. It’s visually distinguishable by its all-metal build.
Its double-walled stainless steel design retains heat, while making finger burns (and glass cracks, obviously) less likely.
One of the finishes available is a sleek, matte black. With the stark matte finish plus the high quality metal build, the P7 reminds me of one of the high end, minimalism-inspired electric kettles from Zwilling.
In other words, definitely something that even the most minimal french press aficionado wouldn’t mind leaving out on the counter. It’s designed to be seen.
The Espro P7 premium coffee press is available in two sizes: a smaller 18oz version and a larger 32 oz version.
The P5
The P5 is no slouch in the looks department, either.
While its build isn’t quite as premium feeling as the P7, it certainly looks and feels on the higher end of the spectrum as far as coffee presses go.
The Espro P5 incorporates strong, thicker-than-usual, Schott-Duran German glass into its design. So while it does have glass parts, you don’t need to stress about it cracking the way cheap glass electric kettles sometimes do (when you’re least expecting it).
Glass coffee gear tends to require a little more upkeep to keep it looking good, but in case you ever need to replace the glass carafe from scratch, Espro offers replacement glass carafes separately.
Final Thoughts
When it comes down to it, both the P5 and the P7 are great coffee brewers. They both have Espro’s unique dual micro-filter system that brews superior coffee to French Presses.
The key differences are:
- The P7 has a double-walled stainless steel build, the P5 incorporates parts made of tempered glass and plastic.
- While both look great on your counter, the P7 feels more solid to the touch than the P5.
- The P5 costs less than the P7.
If price is a deciding factor for you, you can confidently go with the P5 and know that you’re selecting an awesome, high-end coffee press. And frankly, while the build of the P7 is a little more solid feeling, the visuals are subjective. You might very well prefer the look of the P5 over the P7 in your kitchen, despite it costing less.
If price is more important than build or looks, go with the P5. If build quality and aesthetics are more important to you than the cost of entry, the Espro P7 is for you.
