Why we use a blend of Robusta and Arabica in the new Black Insomnia.

Here at Black Insomnia, our main objective is to help you stay strong throughout the day by bringing you the strongest coffee in the world! We also want you to have fun staying strong, as they say:
“Life can be bitter, your coffee shouldn’t be.”

coffee beans in the sunshine

That’s why we use a blend of Arabica and Robusta Coffee Genera - the only 2 families of over 500 coffee plants worth drinking. Let’s forget about where exactly the plants are grown for a minute, otherwise we’ll be here forever and you’ll run out of time for another cup of Black Insomnia.
Let’s talk about what makes Arabica and Robusta different instead.

If you’re reading this with a cup in your hand, we salute you!

Top - Arabica. Bottom - Robusta

Arabica and Robusta both have differing, positive qualities. In the right hands, they can be blended together to create a superhero-worthy coffee monster. Robusta is the snap, crackle and pop, the get-up-and-go, the strength-giving element of Black Insomnia. An average Robusta bean contains roughly 2.2% caffeine, compared to Arabica’s puny 1%. We go another step further and only source Robusta that has even higher Caffeine content.

But then, why wouldn’t we just use 100% Robusta? It’s all a question of taste! Compared to Robusta, Arabica contains almost twice the concentration of sugars (6-9% versus 3-7%), which means Arabica is naturally sweeter. The higher sugar content doesn’t just make it sweeter, it also allows for more interesting aromatic compounds to develop during the roasting process and gives the coffee a velvety mouthfeel because of a higher level of delicious soluble flavor particles.

The tests by independent labs prove that Black Insomnia is the Strongest Coffee but we’re not that easily satisfied so we used our geekery to bring you an irresponsibly strong coffee that also tastes ridiculously good.

And remember: Sleeping is Cheating!

Stay Strong!
